In 1 month, I packed my bags, got rid of almost everything I owned and got on a train. Maybe I will remember to post here and then you can see where I've been and how I've been.
” ‘God is Love’ (1 John 4:16). This is no longer a general wisdom of life but, rather, the only real and indestructible ground on which a whole life is built. It is a truth and it is a reality. It is a part of the church’s definition that it has to say such things to people who must feel this either as a well-meant phrase and as an untruth or as obvious. The saying ‘God is Love’ is completely open to this danger. It is extremely easy to take to take it as a well-meant exaggeration, a phrase used for the purpose of ecclesiastical celebrations, and thus basically to reject it as untrue and rob it of its seriousness. It is, however, just as much a destruction of the seriousness of this statement when one piously takes it for granted. No, when we speak here of the love of God, we are talking about something incredible. and yet this plainly improbable thing is true, so true that a person’s whole life should be built on it… Those who stay with love do not travel the prescribed way of excellence in the world, but rather their own often incomprehensible, often foolish ways. They lack that last bit of worldly wisdom that is called self-interest. But in these foolish, odd ways, those who have eyes to see, see something shining from the glory if God [herself]” -Bonhoeffer
